Rebekah Schmidt Rocha, b 1970
As an artist currently based in the Pacific Northwest, Rebekah Rocha’s photographic work is highly influenced by her environment, both the moody dampness and the independent spirit surrounding the region. Her work explores ideas of place, identity and the interactions between people and their surroundings, as well as explorations of the visual expressions of internal experiences.
Ms Rocha works in a variety of media, from historical photographic processes including gum printing, platinum/palladium and tintypes to contemporary color work. She holds an MFA from the Art Institute of Boston/Lesley University, a BFA in Design from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia PA, and has studied at Penland School of the Arts and abroad in Cortona, Italy. Ms Rocha is an Adjunct Faculty of Art and Design at Seattle University, and a photography instructor at Seattle Academy of Arts & Sciences and The Photographic Center NW. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally, with work held in both private and public collections.
